Instructions to a Double (Performed in February and March 2009)

witch_060On the night of her hundredth birthday, Kasmira is having a feast. She invites ten of her dearest friends. On this night she reflects on the events of her life and serves up the dish she knows best of all.

This intimate piece of theatre revolves around a table seated for twelve. These seats are where the audience sits. The main character, Kasmira will move through the audience, talking with each of them individually about the events of her life.

Her twin sister Morana has died and their relationship will be portrayed through film and projections.

This darkly inviting performance will involve the audience on a sensory level and challenge them in ways they have not experienced before.

THIS WORK RECEIVED GRANTS FROM THE CITY OF MELBOURNE AND CREATIVE NEW ZEALAND/ THE NEW ZEALAND FRINGE TO ENABLE IT PUT ON A SOLD OUT TOUR TO WELLINGTON, CHRISTCHURCH AND MELBOURNE.

Alex London Dies in Public (created early 2008)

final-image-alex-london-dies-in-publicPerformance Artist Alex London has decided to kill herself as a performance.
Her journey towards this ultimate goal will be recorded as she researches and explores the idea of death as a ritual.
This piece is very theatrical as fantasies about death are played out in a beautifully constructed manner while being juxtaposed with a “real” documentary.
We are not allowed to forget that this is a piece of art and the “artist” is controlling every aspect of it.

The piece is designed to play on three screens simultaneously on a loop. It can be watched from any point for any length of time. Alex London Dies in Public created waves at the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2008. Media attention due to the perceived controversial content of the installation led to high audience numbers attending the well received and thought-provoking work. Unicorn Productions intends this visual art work to explore the idea of sacrifice for art. The piece invites the viewer to examine what is considered important and valuable in our society while they question the reality of what they are seeing. Alex London Dies in Public will be shown again in the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2008 at Bar Open 317 Brunswick St, Fitzroy from 27 September to 4th October 2008 from 2pm to 3am.

Jill and Irene Go Camping (created late 2007)

irene-and-jill_76Come camping with Jill & Irene – but not if you’re afraid of what might be contained within the depths of the forest, a place populated by strange and unworldly creatures! Your captivatingly stroppy female guides will lead you on a mystical journey which cumulates in the revelation of why they’ve ventured into this unfamiliar place – the secret which binds them together.

This very stylised, physical theatre piece was challenging for both actors and audience. The audience were placed in a circle around the actors after making their way through an installation which introduced them to the world of Jill and Irene. Inspired by Commedia Del’arte, the characters were grotesque and exaggerated. Unicorn Productions hope to transform Jill & Irene Go Camping into a series of podcasts in 2009.
