Underground Cinema is a secret monthly film screening event held in undisclosed locations throughout Melbourne. It could happen anywhere; a warehouse, a forgotten ballroom, a carpark. We believe that predictable is boring – so we’ve made our locations secret and we’re keeping the films’ identity a mystery too – just to keep you guessing.
We’re not about your average multiplex experience. Arriving at our locations is like walking onto a film set. The team here believe that sometimes you have to shake things up a bit and have a little fun doing it. Who we are isn’t all that important. What we are doing is taking cinema out of the cinema and inviting you along for the ride. You in?
And don’t forget Jenine Kerr is involved in the Melbourne Fringe show A Melody of Discontent 1st to 3rd and 6th to 10th October at the Northcote Town Hall
Jill & Irene Go Electro!!! Listen here to the latest Electro Pussy Posse Jam featuring the voices of Jill & Irene from Unicorn Productions’ 2007 Melbourne Fringe Festival production. Special thanks to Dr Hitchcock!
Thank you once again to everyone who came to Instructions to a Double in Wellington, Christchurch or Melbourne earlier this year. Here are some pics from the tour.
Sadly, Unicorn Productions will not be putting on any other projects as a company in 2009 because the company’s members are all very busy with various things across two countries.
Julia Campbell attended a week-long Zen Zen Zo intensive in Melbourne in July, where she trained in the physical theatre training methods of Viewpoints, Suzuki and Butoh.
Jenine Kerr is currently putting together filmed projections for a Melbourne Fringe Festival play called A Melody of Discontent (check the Fringe website for details, the program is out next week)
Erin Hutching recently completed an internship with the Melbourne International Film Festival working on the Accelerator program for emerging filmmakers, and she will be writing reviews of Melbourne Fringe events for Buzzcuts throgh Express Media. These reviews will be posted on this site also!
We also hope to shortly post some footage from both the Jill & Irene performances in 2007 and this year’s Instructions to a Double shows. Watch this space…
Never fear, the Unicorn Productions team will be reuniting to create a new work in 2010. We can’t say much, but it will be a film project (whether a short film or an installation) and dark and atmospheric……

Unicorn Productions (represented by Jenine Kerr and Erin Hutching) will show Alex London Dies in Public and take part in an on-the-couch discussion about their work in the context of 1940s filmmaker Maya Deren.
April 1st, 6-9pm at Guilford Lane Gallery, 20-24 Guildford Lane (off Queen St after La Trobe) The installation will remain at the gallery for 3 weeks from this date.
